04 November 2016 | VA - #SaveFabric
This release being what it is - a 111-track compilation comprising genres varying from techno to drum & bass, it's hard to talk about aspects of sound or give it a comprehensive review, so instead we will tell a little about how it came to be. Fabric is a nightclub that was opened in 1999 and has since established itself as one of the greatest clubs in London, renowned internationally. Over the years Fabric gained a huge devoted following and hosted some 5000 DJs, so you can imagine the influence. In August of 2016, Fabric announced that two 18-year-olds had died from the overdose within 9 weeks, while being in club, a tendency that wasn't left unnoticed by the law enforcement. As a result of that, Fabric was closed indefinitely, its license - revoked, its future - uncertain. In an attempt to appeal the decision of Islington Council and regain the license, a #SaveFabric campaign was started, parts of which included online petition, a series of parties in various spots around London, fundraising campaign, and this very compilation, which is a part of it. Aivazovsky Waves takes part in a campaign to raise awareness of this issue and help Fabric to get back on its feet.
