VA - Messe Noire VA001

While technically its debut release was published in 2016, it's probably safe to say that Animal Holocaust's French imprint Messe Noire Records is the first techno label to step into existence with arrival of 2017, revealing its roster of ruthless underground producers with a freely available, eye-catching VA release that might cater to industrial technoheads who are on the look out for some rough 'n tough material.

Messe Noire VA001 can be virtually divided in four parts, the biggest one of which contains of Senoid, Horse With No Head, Violence and Sink - straightforward, dancefloor-oriented works with hard-hitting kicks in 4/4, ranging in tempo from 132 to 136 BPM. Then there are When Hate Isn't Enough, End and Lost Sanctuary - 136-138 BPM paced, heavily laden with noise fields, experimental numbers (first two of which are syncopated), but nonetheless, they can be effective in the warehouse setting, assuming you will pick the right time for them in a set. Contrast - a coarse contribution from the initiator of the fun himself - Animal Holocaust, is in some ways playing the role of a corner stone in this release; it's the most rapid track of the bunch, arranged at 148 BPM, and it leans on the elements of modern hardcore and rave, with insertion of the suitable voice segments. Enclosing pieces Moan Of The Unhallowed and Red Fields take the listener through the bleak, monochromatic drone walls peppered with muffled-out, downtempo beats - something that fans of power electronics will surely find appealing.

So there you go. These 10 tracks clock at 1 hour, 4 minutes and 10 seconds - enough to immerse yourself in a dark world of industrial soundscapes and return with sense of utter wretchedness and lack of any hope.
