Samuel Kerridge - The Silence Between Us
Samuel Kerridge names a passage of four parts with his most recent EP and its tracklist: “The Silence Between Us”; “Possession/Control”; “Ascension”; and “Radical Possibilities Of Pleasure”.
His music takes a single direction: up. What it begins with it continues. Such a musical idea relies on its own inertia, moving the way a person would if once he started he refused to stop, and if his movement was relentless and every obstacle encountered was less that than a marker showing just how much he had already passed.
For such a person the world carries certain immense unrealized energies which are left abandoned and unculled simply because he, in himself, has been so long unwilling and so enervated. And so he decided to exhaust himself completely, and see how far he is to go before he ends.
He discovers that there is no lower limit. No point at which his being simply stops for want of substance and eradicates itself.
Come what may, the fact that the finitude of one's actions depends not on their nature, course or end but on the energy of one’s dedication is an awakening. The toll such an awakening takes, its penetrating depth, is the only sign of maturity worth pointing to.
Everyone carries such signs upon their body. They multiply with age.
You can of course silently behold, and see in the creases of the face, gestures and inwardness of the other’s thought what lines their face or animates their movements. Or what inner tension causes them to stop speaking, sit pensive and preserve in silence an unspoken language.
Two people, sitting together, facing each other, speak without words. Silently the gaze of one adorns the other and rises in intensity. They press together and eagerly define themselves. And peak.
Words by goro.
