27 December 2016 | GabeeN - Virtual Environments
For the second time in one month, just two weeks after the all-around wonderful Broken Symmetry LP by Frankie Serious, Switch Off Records presents us another, even bigger album, this time by Hungary-based, seasoned techno artist Gabor Bacsardi a.k.a. GabeeN, whose countless tracks, at the moment of writing this review, are scattered across exactly one hundred labels (no exaggeration, look it up), the earliest of which date back to 2009. It it also worth mentioning that Virtual Environments is his third album in a span of one year and fourth album in total, which, if you also put into account all the EPs he's been releasing over that time, is undeniably prolific. So what have we got? If you leave out the peculiar Outro, we got fourteen effective, straight-to-the-point, dancefloor-oriented techno tracks that don't hold back in neither force nor energy, all of which can serve as practical tools in a serious set, be it a humble gathering at your local bar or a grand performance in a Tresor-scale establishment. Most of the pieces have tempo of 130 BPM (with only fourth number Dust being paced at 128 BPM), and are clocking at 1 hour, 27 minutes and 45 seconds - impressive timespan, considering that this is almost twice the length of a regular album, which also means that you could play a whole hour using solely these tracks. Be sure to give it a listen and support Hungarian techno export!
